King County deputies investigate assault at Northgate light rail station

Nov 06, 2024

The King County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault that they said occurred at a light rail station in Seattle.

Officials said it happened after noon on Monday at the Northgate station. A woman reported to deputies that “someone hit her-possibly with some sort of metal object-and it was possibly another passenger.” The 72-year-old woman was transported to the hospital.

The KCSO said the other person involved in the altercation was a 42-year-old woman. During the investigation deputies are still trying to determine exactly what happened and what led up to the incident.

"The safety of our passengers is our top priority. While riding light rail is generally very safe, any assault is one too many," a Sound Transit spokesperson told KOMO News. "We are cooperating with law enforcement in the hope that the perpetrator can be found and brought to justice.”

Sound Transit also said they continue to make investments in security and they have more than doubled their security presence since last year with over 500 security personnel. They have also developed a special rapid-response team which is aimed to arrive at scenes within five minutes.

Sound Transit officials ask riders to text or call security if they see something or if they feel unsafe at (206) 398-5268.
